Allergy Information and Policy
The John Fisher School is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all pupils and staff, including those who have allergies or are at risk of anaphylaxis.
We recognise that allergies can be serious and, in some circumstances, life-threatening. We therefore take allergy management seriously and have procedures in place to minimise risks, raise awareness and ensure that appropriate support is available throughout the school day and during school-related activities.
Our Allergy Policy
Our Allergy Policy sets out the school's approach to allergy awareness and management. It covers:
-
Identifying and recording pupil and staff allergies.
-
Individual Healthcare Plans and emergency arrangements.
-
The storage and management of medication, including adrenaline auto-injectors.
-
Staff training and awareness.
-
Food allergens, catering arrangements and cross-contamination.
-
Educational visits and school activities.
-
Recognising and responding to allergic reactions.
The school operates an allergy-aware approach and has a full ban on nuts in place.

Information for Parents and Carers
Parents and carers are asked to inform the school of any allergy or medical condition affecting their child that may require support or specific arrangements.
If your child has an allergy, please complete the Student Allergy Notification and Assessment Form and return it to the school.
Where appropriate, please also provide copies of any relevant medical advice, prescribed medication details and allergy or emergency action plans issued by healthcare professionals.
The information provided will help the school assess individual needs and put suitable arrangements in place to support your child's safety and wellbeing.

Working Together
Managing allergies effectively requires partnership between the school, parents and carers, pupils, healthcare professionals and catering providers.
We encourage parents and carers to contact the school if their child's allergy, medication or medical needs change, so that records and support arrangements can be reviewed and updated.
