Universal Celebrations
The Special Franciscan Jubilee Year: Pope Leo XIV has proclaimed a unique Jubilee Year running until 10 January 2027 to mark the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis of Assisi. The universal Church is focusing heavily on St Francis’s core values: peace, care for creation, and reconciliation. A special plenary indulgence has been made available by the Vatican for anyone making a pilgrimage to a Franciscan church or shrine during this period..
The Jubilee Year of Compostela (2027): The year 2027 has been designated as a Holy Year of Compostela (Jacobean Year). This occurs because the Feast of St James (25 July) falls on a Sunday. Catholics worldwide will be focusing on the theme of pilgrimage and spiritual renewal.
Pope Benedict XVI Centenary (2027): 16 April 2027 will mark 100 years since the birth of the late Pope Benedict XVI. Schools and dioceses globally will be taking time to reflect on his immense theological legacy and his teachings on faith and reason.
