Admissions

The JFS (John Fisher School) Sixth Form welcomes applications from boys of all faiths or none. Whilst most of Y11 students choose to stay and study at the JFS Sixth Form, we do have a small number of highly sought-after places for external students.

We offer a wide range of A-Level and BTEC courses, which can be found in our latest prospectus. We also offer all students the opportunity to undertake the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which gives them the change to earn additional UCAS points through an extra qualification.

In addition to students’ chosen academic studies, we also offer a wide-ranging enrichment programme every Wednesday afternoon to help students maintain their mental and physical well-being alongside their studies. This includes, but is not limited to; rugby, football, weights-training, tennis, cricket, basketball and many more.

Students at The JFS perform extremely well and many choose to go on to Higher Education, with many leaving us for Russell Group universities. We do also have an in-house careers coordinator who offers regular support for any students who are looking to enter the world of work after leaving us either through employment or apprenticeships.

During their two years with us, John Fisher Sixth Form students are given several the opportunity to develop their personal skills that will equip them for later in life. We offer a “Lessons for Life” programme weekly, which sees one morning devoted to preparing students for adulthood by making them aware of topics such as; banking, pensions, legalities regarding domestic and international travel, legal rights, political rights, driving awareness and many more. All JFS Sixth Formers will also complete a comprehensive RSHE and tutoring system and we take great pride in guiding students through this very important stage of their education. Additionally, students have the opportunity to take on positions of responsibility and leadership with the Sixth Form, through our service programme which includes the options to mentor younger students, assist with playground duties and run for the Student Leadership Team.

If you would like to apply for the JFS Sixth Form then please familiarise yourself with the following process. Please note the months refer to the academic year in which a student is in Year 11. For example, a student who enrolled for a start date of September 2025, would have begun the process below in October 2024.

OCTOBER Applications open to all students on the first Monday after the half-term break
NOVEMBER Open Evening for all prospective students (exact date to be confirmed on website)
DECEMBER Deadline for applications is the first Friday of December for all students
FEBRUARY Interviews take place with external students
MARCH Provisional offer letters sent to all students
JUNE The first Friday in June is the final date for any changes to applications
AUGUST Enrolment begins on GCSE Results Day. (Please see the link to ‘Sixth Form Enrolment Day Plan’ below for further details on the enrolment process).
SEPTEMBER Year 12 Induction Day (exact date to be confirmed on enrolment days) to complete the application process and secure their place.

Please note that any prospective student must follow the above process (where necessary) to secure their place. It is not possible to enrol students virtually and must be done in person. Please ensure your son is available to attend one of the enrolment days in person and be mindful of this when booking any holidays and/or trips away. Any student who does enrol but does not attend the Induction Day, may lose their place at the JFS Sixth Form. Any applications received outside of the above timescales will only be processed if there are spaces remaining. Due to the extremely high volume of emails received in the Summer Break, please assume any late applications made are unsuccessful unless you receive a response from the school to say otherwise.

If you have read the above and wish to proceed, please complete the relevant Google Form by clicking on one of the links below. Please note that there is a different form for internal students (currently at JFS) and external students. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Cooney, Sixth Form Administrator, at c.cooney@johnfisherschool.org .

We look forward to reviewing your application.
