Welcome to the JFS Alumni

I want to welcome you to the John Fisher Alumni- bringing together all former students of the school. As an Old Boy of John Fisher, you are invited to attend all the functions throughout the year which aim to bring together former classmates, friends and teammates. The school continues to grow and change, but at its heart are the same traditions, ethos and past times which make it such a special place to be.

During the year, we will organise events which will help showcase the schools continued success in spirt, music and the arts. Please do support these events where possible as we would love to hear your stories and memories. If you have not already, please do sign up to receive the school newsletter. This will have alumni specific articles, updates and events in it. We welcome any volunteers to come in and talk to the current students, businesses who could support the school, or those who wish to help at events such as rewards evenings and end of term assemblies.

Here are a few recent events:

Sports Gala Dinner: We welcomed back a host of old boys for this wonderful event which helps raise vital funds for our sporting provision. This year we welcomed over 250 guests to enjoy speeches from a host of international sportsmen including our very own alumni Martyn Rooney (Triple Olympian) and Laurie Evans (Surrey and England cricket) as well as video messages from a host of others. A special thank you to alumni S. Bandiera (Oyster Partnership) and D. Stamp (Days Garages) for sponsoring the event.

Alumni Tours: Every year we welcome back many alumni for a tour of the school and walk down memory lane. This year we have seen old boys from all over the UK, and the world, pop in for a chat and a tour to their old classrooms. It was especially pleasing to be able to host both P.Sloan (1971) and R. Mockford (1969) who were travelling over from France and Australia respectively. They sent in this message: “We cannot thank you enough for the tour of the school today. We loved every minute, and it brought back a lot of memories. It was also great to see how the school is evolving and developing and is still we think a unique place of education. It was also wonderful to see how passionate you are about the school, its history and potential going forward.

We welcome all alumni to get in touch for a tour once restrictions allow.

Some alumni deserve a special mention:

Alex Dombrandt (2015) celebrated another successful season with Harlequins RFC with a call up to the England training camp. He continues to be a regular premiership starter for Quins but has been a regular visitor to the school this year. He came in to run some training for our Under-15 side as they went on their superb National Cup run in early 2020. He has also worked with our coaches and 1st XV.

Dermott O’Gorman and John Howard were both ordained this year. John was on the staff at John Fisher for a time, and Dermott is the older brother of Fr. Matthew O’Gorman.

Oliver Browne (2007) has recently joined NASA as an Aerospace Engineer at their research centre in Santa Clara, California. This role follows years of working in the U.S doing his Postdoctoral Research at the University of Kentucky and before this, Arizona. We wish him well and look forward to the forthcoming ‘Zoom’ interview.

Speed Careers: We welcomed over 50 alumni as part of our annual ‘Speed Careers’ event. This is an opportunity for students in Years 9, 12 and 13 to speak to a sports hall full of professionals from a wide range of careers. With over 90 guests on the day, we were delighted so many old boys could come back and share their pearls of wisdom to inspire the next generation of leavers.
